Attendance
Why Attendance Matters
Being at school every day helps students learn, build friendships, and stay on track for success. Even a few missed days each month can make it harder for students to keep up with classroom learning.
Chronic Absenteeism
A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school year—about 18 days in a 180-day school year.
Important: All absences count toward chronic absenteeism, including:
- Excused absences
- Unexcused absences
- Suspensions
How Schools Will Help
If your child begins missing too many days, the school will:
- Contact you early to discuss attendance concerns.
- Work with you to identify any challenges affecting attendance.
- Provide support and resources to help improve attendance.
- Develop an Attendance Success Plan when needed.
Our goal is to partner with families to help every child be successful.
How Parents Can Help
You can support your child's success by:
- Making school attendance a daily priority.
- Scheduling appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
- Calling the school when your child must be absent.
- Providing required documentation for excused absences.
- Communicating with your child's teacher or school if your family needs support.
We're Here to Help!
